locall resty gossip 11.8.17

  • Giuseppe’s Pismo will be opening after Thanksgiving.
  • The bakery in the breezeway between Uptown Espresso and Buona Tavola? You know the only thing to actually hold down that spot longer than a year in the past decade? It has gotten too big and is moving out and in its place is going Restorative Cafe.
  • Mattei’s Tavern–with Maili Halme at the helm–will open in December.
  • Puffers of Pismo has leased the adjacent space and will double in size. This place is packed EVERY TIME I GO, so the extra elbow room will be appreciated.
  • Ynot Juice Bar in Pismo Beach is totally up and quite beautiful inside. Across the parking lot from Hapy Bistro. And owned by the same people.
  • The former 5th location of Tortillia Mexico on Main EAST of Broadway in Santa Maria has been replaced by a Oaxacan Restaurant called Alebrijes.  It is very good.
  • There’s a huge new wine warehouse and tasting bar going in one of the new buildings across the street from the SLO airport (SBP) right on Broad called Winesneak.
  • The Spirit of 76 at the airport is going to go under the knife and emerge as an actual restaurant you could actually dine at. (oh and the new terminal is done and in use)
  • Speaking of Airport restaurant and their almost equally horrible next of kin Hotel restaurant there is an above-average restaurant: VALLE EATERY & BAR that is open in the Hilton Garden Inn in Lompoc.  From the outstanding Valle Fresh group.
  • Inn at the Pier in Pismo Beach in that old dirt parking lot we all used to park in is fully open with 2 resties: BLONDE and THE ROOFTOP.  First impressions are coming in disappointing.
  • Pico, Ember, and Cass House Grill are the three best restaurants between Santa Barbara and Big Sur.
  • The BRAND NEW Wendy’s has opened on Cubaril in Atascadero.
  • The Willow Restaurant project in Pismo Beach in Marie Callender’s building continues to slog on painfully slow with lots of face-lifting action, but no sign of completion.
  • The Spoon Trade in Grover Beach has added–in addition to lunch 5 days a week–a *happy hour* of sorts between 4 and 5 Thursday through Monday with all kinds of drink specials and fun snacks at the high tables ONLY!
